Carolyn Evans-Dean, Author of Bystander: A Tale of the End of the World As SHE Knew It!
Review: Fades the Light
By Ron Foster
It has been ten years since a solar tsunami has swept away modern society, leaving behind few people and even fewer resources. The story focuses on David, the leader of a small band of survivors that have settled in a lakeside community. The residents have come from varied backgrounds and each contributes some special skill that enables the community to eke out an existence in this changed world.
As this story is the final installment in the Prepper Trilogy, it is advisable that the reader follow the story from the beginning to learn about the characters and the events that shaped them.
While the community is comprised of survivors, they are not living an ideal lifestyle and fear that the younger generation in their midst will flee, seeking adventure and excitement in the FEMA camps and more urban environments. Though the story is set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop, the notion of a youth and knowledge drain is quite relevant to the modern society as we know it.
Author Ron Foster presents a light, compelling tale that is steeped in homemade hooch, colorful characters and the Cajun dialect figuring prominently. It is also peppered with helpful preparedness information relating to generating solar power and the acquisition and use of animal attractants for hunting.
This story provides a loose framework for the re-creation of a society that must rise from the ashes. While it is nice to finally have a conclusion to the Prepper Trilogy, I have a feeling that this isn’t an ending… but a new beginning.

Seeking a Book for the End of the World

Seeking a Book for the End of the World: With the fated date on the Mayan calendar quickly approaching, survivalism has become an important topic. What will people do if the ancient predictions come to pass? Having an example always makes learning easier. Recognizing this, author Ron Foster uses fiction to teach people survival techniques in his books.

Noted Prepper Blogger Survivor Jane reviews ARkStorm by Ron Foster

Book Review of ARkStorm by Ron Foster Print
I first read about this super-storm; the ARk Storm, while researching for an article I was writing on the San Andreas Fault and earthquakes. I was so intrigued by what I read that I actually stopped my initial research and began digging more into the ARk Storm. For those who aren’t familiar with an ARk Storm scenario; and many aren’t, it is a huge storm that would sits stationary out in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. The storm ‘could’ last up to 40 or more days, bringing with it rain totals in feet – not inches - possibly 10 feet or even more (it stands for Atmospheric River 1000 Storm - but due to the 40 days of raining thing it ties in well with the biblical ark).
As a result of all the rain, huge portions of California would be flooded and result in landslides, floating debris, erosion and, infrastructure damage (See my article The ‘Bigger One’ – ARk Storm bigger than the 'Big One' in California). The last of this storm type was recorded in 1861–62 which flooded the central valley of California - so yes we are due.
Now it’s a given, some - as with other “doomsday-events” - may scoff at the notion of this “perfect west coast storm’’.  But remember this has happened before. The only difference is, unlike other events, there will be prior notice, as it would take days and even weeks to become a reality giving residents plenty of warning to respond.
arkstormWhen you understand how an ARk Storm is created it only seems natural that author Ron Forster would write about it.  You see, an ARk Storm is created by charged particles in the atmosphere from the sun, like solar flares, CME’s, coronal holes, gamma ray burst and galactic cosmic rays.  See the book pattern here?  Hint: sun.
In the book, ‘The ARkStorm’ California is hit by this perfect storm once again, bringing with it the aforementioned flooding of biblical proportions. Millions are forced to evacuate (can you even imagine that???)
To bring the disaster scenario even closer to reality for the preparedness-minded, the author creates a setting in the storyline at a prepper’ event called “PrepperStock” when this storm hits. Talk about a wake-up call!
And, as if this storm in and of its self is not bad enough, the story weaves through the downward spiral of our nation’s economy with the threat of terrorism nipping on the heels of American as evacuees and the like struggle for survival at any cost and their attempt at avoiding the ‘refugee’ camps.
The author does not disappoint. As with all of his books, he uses these creative storylines as a tool to educate and show us all; preparedness-mind and otherwise, how to survive any world as we know it sharing tips and suggestions and yes even prepper-products along the way to get us to think.

Book Trailer ARkStorm

GoatHollow made me a nice book trailer for my new book ARkSorm.

The ARkStorm (for Atmospheric River 1000 Storm) has brought a devastating flood of biblical proportions to California forcing millions of people to evacuate. For the preppers attending PrepperStock this year the troubles brought about by the this disaster have just begun as the economy begins a slow collapse and acts of terrorism threaten America`s survival. Refugee camps are filling up with millions of evacuees who remained at shelters and were not lucky enough to bunk in with friends or relatives and try and start over again. The end of a functioning U.S. economy is compounded by mysterious grid failures nationwide.

The ARkStorm series is patterned after the 1861–62 historical events that flooded the central valley of California. The scientifically realistic "superstorm" scenario developed and published by the United States Geological Survey has been adapted as a story line that includes the author's modern day applications of emergency management principles with a prepper community slant. Keep your feet and your powder dry folks!!

Book Description

Some folks might call what Donald is trying to create with his little rural house as an effort to become more self-sufficient. Donald can agree with that line of thinking, but the way he sees it, it is going to be own personal uphill battle and race against time to create a safe haven "bugout" location before a NASA predicted solar storm hits. His friends and family think his extra workload is a waste of time and energy. His neighbors' think he is a bit quirky somewhat or eccentric. He is not. He is just another personally driven good ol boy prepper on a mission. He is about to perform a labor of love and preparedness that he hopes might just save him and the little dead end road community he just moved into. He is believing in and heeding NASA`s warnings, as well as his own premonitions of impending societal breakdown.

Like all Ron's books, he takes his adventure story and weaves in prepper tricks and introduces some new survival supplies that possibly most folks haven't thought about yet and integrates them into his storyline. This book focuses on building a bug out location from scratch, with permaculture and disaster psychology applied to an unfolding catastrophe. Basicaly how will people act as an apocalyptic event unfolds. This book is dedicated to the new Real Day Prepper show and Mr. Foster has actually accomplished much of what is written in this book as a real life experience in developing a self reliant lifestyle.

An amazing finale to the Preppers trilogy with the Light in the Lake! | Rural North Carolina

The Light in the Lake
Today we are reviewing The Light in the Lake by Ron Foster! It is the third and last book of his Preppers trilogy. The last two weeks I have reviewed Preppers Road March and Bug Out Preppers on the Move. I absolutely loved the series an had a hard time putting it down.

The third book in the trilogy continued to deliver just like the two previous books. Chock full of information to help anyone survive and learn how to establish trading. I am glad the local store had a sale on highlighters cause mine ran out of ink.

It is amazing that the storyline is so entertaining but still contains this much valuable information. Ron is truly gifted in his ability to deliver the technical knowledge while mesmerizing readers with the characters.

This book had me rooting for the characters and laughing out loud at some of the ones introduced. I can clearly see some of the antics playing out and it even brings up the fauna and flora from my trips to Alabama. This is the hallmark of good writing in my opinion.

The ability for a author to write in a way that his readers can picture and relate to the characters, locations, and stories is what keeps people turning the pages. I know my sleep will appreciate being done with the series as it was hard to put down.

As much as I liked the storyline the knowledge that was communicated about surviving any situation where society collapses is priceless. There are so many things to prepare for but I know that I am in a better place by reading this series.

I know I am nowhere prepared for the level of disaster that this trilogy covers. One can only take it day by day and prepare as best as you can. I can only hope that if that time ever comes my loved ones and my family will be blessed by God and mercy taken on them.

Special thanks goes out to the author Ron Foster! You can find more information about Ron at http://disaster-fiction.blogspot.com/

He is truly preparing the people for preparedness through his talented pen. I look forward to being entertained and educated by his works in the future.

Preppers Road March is Book 1 of by Ron Foster in his Preppers Trilogy

I enjoyed Preppers Road March, which is book 1 in the Preppers Trilogy by Ron Foster. For more information about Ron Please visit his blog. This is my favorite genre of fiction right now. As I talked about in my review of the latest Rawles book I appreciate a great read, but it is also nice to have a good reference book.

I think I may have worn out a highlighter on the first read through of Book 1. There are so many hints, tips, and good knowledge that it could easily be a reference manual. The part that truly makes it a home run is that it was woven with great Character development and storyline.

Without trying to get too much into the book an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) has hit earth from a solar flare from our sun. It has killed any electronics around the world. Our poor displaced prepper is 180 miles away from home and without his supplies.

Ron has done a great job getting the character home and the main character dispenses knowledge along the way. The secondary character development is awesome as I could picture a lot of these people in my head. That is a hallmark of good writing in my opinion.

There are only two things that I really would consider as a negative in the book. First there was some consumption of alcoholic beverages, which we know will happen if an EMP ever hits. The part that was a little disconcerting for me was the Lead character imbibed. Given his level of knowledge and experiences was a little out of norm.

The second thing that was a little problematic was the lack of any real criminal drama happening. I can understand the author not wanting to focus on any negative aspects and the distraction it could cause if an event happens. There is still plenty of warnings of criminal situations, but none that our lead character had to overcome.

I was thrilled when Ron sent me several books to give away on the blog as now you can get a taste of his writing. We gave the first one away this past week and the 2nd chance giveaway will be this Thursday based on random drawings from comments.

I have already dived into Book 2 and I think Bracken has some competition for top of the pack in the Survival Fiction genre. The elevation of writing talent in this genre bodes well for future readers.
